Summer Message

Dear Parents,
As I finish my sixth year as Superintendent/principal, I am very proud of what an outstanding school district we have in East Nicolaus. We are successful because of the incredible skills and commitment of our teachers, support staff, and leaders as well as the remarkable care and concern you show for our schools. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Marcum School!
Together, in spite of the ongoing fiscal crisis in the state, we have accomplished a great deal. Our students are achieving at proficiency levels higher than ever before. They are receiving high quality instruction based on state adopted standards, and being prepared to be more successful after they leave our care. Our students are safe, secure, and nurtured. They learn in state-of-the-art facilities and utilize the latest technology everyday in the classroom. Our parents are informed, involved, and incredibly supportive.
Our mission is to support every student in becoming a lifelong learner. To that end, this year, we successfully avoided laying off teachers and support staff, and provided ongoing teacher training with a particular emphasis in rigor and differentiated instruction.
Next year will bring a new set of challenges, primarily with the budget, but also with our ongoing efforts to improve student learning. I am confident that we will continue to work together and position ourselves to continue to move our district forward.
For now, though, its time to celebrate the end of the year and get some well deserved rest. Best wishes to all of you for a safe, restful, relaxing, and “fun” summer break.
Sincerely, Sharon McIntosh superintendent/principal
