THE DEN: 2011-2012 ASES Program

The After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) is a state funded grant that provides funding to Marcum School for after school care for students who meet certain criteria.

If The Den meets the needs of your family then fill out the registration form and turn into the office before the first day of school. You will be responsible for all the information in the Afterschool  handbook concerning procedures and regulations set forth from CDE for receiving grant funding.

About the Program:

  • Starts on August 24, 2011 and ends on June 7, 2012
  • We must meet the maximum enrollment of 35 students per day throughout the year
  • Our program is available to students in grades K through 8th  grades

  • Is open on minimum days and is closed on school holidays
  • We provide a safe and positive emotional environment
  • A daily nutritional snack is given
  • An Educational and Literacy Component providing homework assistance
  • Direct supervision with pupil to staff ratio of no more than 20:1
  • Dedicated and passionate staff to ensure a positive experience

Program Rules:

Attendance:

  • Attendance is taken daily.
  • Children are required to maintain a minimum monthly attendance rate of 90% (approximately 2 absences per month).

Early Dismissal: Children attend the full program, unless a written early dismissal policy is in place. A written statement from the parent or guardian specifying dates, times, and the qualifying condition satisfies the early dismissal policy. Qualifying conditions are:

  • Attending a parallel program (programs in the school or community, e.g. soccer, baseball, music lessons, Youth Center).
  • Family emergencies (such as a death in the family, catastrophic incidents, etc.).
  • Medical appointments.
  • Child incidents that occur during program time (staff call parent/guardian).
  • Observance of religious holidays.
  • Extreme transportation constraints.
  • Parent choice (e.g. elementary school students attend a minimum of 15 hours per week and middle school students attend a minimum of 9 hours per week)

Sign-Out: Children must be signed out by a parent or authorized adult. To further ensure safety, only persons listed on the Enrollment Form are allowed to pick up and sign out your child.

Walkers:

  • Students are authorized by their parent/guardian to walk home. Students will be signed out 30 minutes before dark during the winter months.

PICK-UP TIMES

The program doors close at 6:00PM. If a child is left at the program after 6:00PM, we will consider this a late pick-up. Frequent late pick-ups may result in your child no longer being able to participate in the Program. If you think you will have difficulty in picking up your child on time, we encourage you to arrange for an alternative means of transportation on that day, and to notify the staff of your arrangements. Policy and charges for late pick-ups are as follows:

After the first late pick-up, parents/legal guardians will receive a verbal                 notification that a late pick-up has occurred

  •  Each subsequent late pick-up results in a $10 fine per child. If your child remains at the school after 6:05PM, there is an additional charge of $1 per child, per minute. The fine is due when you pick up your child the next program day.
  •  Program staff will call the Sutter county Sheriff Department to pick up any child who has not been picked up by 6:30pm.
