Message from the Superintendent/Principal

Sharon McIntosh 2005-Present

Welcome to the Marcum-Illinois Union Elementary School District Website. Our goal is to continually provide timely and accurate information to teachers, students, parents, staff and community members on educational issues that affect the Nicolaus community.

Marcum-Illinois Union Elementary School District is a single school district serving preschool through eighth grades. A five member Board of Trustees governs Marcum-Illinois School.

It is the responsibility of the superintendent/principal for the supervision and evaluation of the entire school program. There are nine certificated teachers for kindergarten through eighth grades who are responsible for the delivery of the instructional program. In addition, we have eight classified employees who provide instructional support through maintenance, operations, cafeteria, transportation, custodial, clerical, business, and instructional aid services.

We have a state funded preschool program for 3-4 year old children taught by two preschool teachers. The goal of our preschool program is to prepare children academically and socially for the rigors of a standards-based elementary school program.

Our school is a high achieving school with an Academic Performance Indicator (API) in excess of statewide averages and made Adequate Yearly Performance (AYP) using state and federal guidelines.

We encourage parent involvement through volunteer activities, twice yearly parent-teacher conferences, School Site Council, and an active Parents Club.

Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all students, including the more able who benefit from increased depth and complexity. Our goal is for each of our students to become a self-confident thinker and problem solver, a good citizen, and a successful person.

If you are interested in visiting our campus to see dynamic learning, a small and nurturing environment, and an actively engaging curriculum, please call to make an appointment for a personalized tour.
